Responsible Political Involvement

Responsible political involvement encompasses corporate lobbying, political donations, trade association memberships, and engagement with public policy processes.

ISO 26000 emphasises that organisations should be transparent about their political activities and should not use undue influence to obtain favourable treatment. GRI 415 (Public Policy) requires disclosure of political contributions by country and recipient. Investors increasingly expect companies to disclose their lobbying activities, trade association memberships, and political spending, and to ensure alignment between their stated sustainability commitments and their political advocacy. The CPA-Zicklin Index benchmarks S&P 500 companies on political disclosure and accountability. Climate-related lobbying has become a particular focus, with investors demanding that companies ensure their lobbying is consistent with Paris Agreement goals.
