Corporate contributions to community health encompass both the direct health impacts of business operations (pollution, product safety, occupational health) and proactive investments in community health outcomes.
ISO 26000 identifies health as a key area of community involvement, recognising that organisations can contribute to promoting health by addressing health impacts of their activities, supporting access to healthcare services, and contributing to public health initiatives. Key areas include managing environmental health impacts (air quality, water quality, chemical exposure), supporting access to healthcare in underserved communities, workplace health programmes that extend to families and communities, health education and awareness campaigns, contributions to disease prevention and treatment programmes, and responsible marketing of health-related products. These activities contribute to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
