Social investment refers to the strategic allocation of corporate resources — financial, in-kind, and human — to community development initiatives that create shared value for both the business and society.
Unlike traditional philanthropy, social investment is characterised by strategic alignment with business objectives, measurable social outcomes, long-term commitment, and stakeholder engagement in design and implementation. The London Benchmarking Group (LBG) framework provides a widely used methodology for measuring and reporting corporate community investment, categorising contributions as charitable gifts, community investment, or commercial initiatives. Impact measurement frameworks including Social Return on Investment (SROI), the Impact Management Project, and the SDG Impact Standards help organisations assess the effectiveness of their social investments.
